Girls’ Sport

1st Team Hockey

The U13 girls travelled to Marden Hockey Club for the UKSA tournament, played in a round-robin format, and produced a strong set of performances across the day to finish in 3rd place overall.

They opened in style with a 4–0 victory over Mayfield, with Bella netting an impressive hat-trick and Antonia adding another. A disciplined display followed in the 1–0 win against Croydon High School, thanks to Antonia’s well-taken goal. The team then faced Marlborough House Vinehall, where Bella’s strike wasn’t quite enough in a narrow 2–1 defeat.

Against a strong Sevenoaks side, the girls battled superbly in a very close contest, eventually losing 4–2 despite two excellent goals from Bella. They responded well with a determined 1–1 draw versus Claremont, with Bella again on the scoresheet.

The final two matches showed the team’s resilience and growing confidence. Clemmie secured a 1–0 win over Holmewood House 2nds, before the girls finished on a high with a 5–1 victory over Skippers Hill. Goals came from Bella (2), Trixie, Tilly and Clemmie, rounding off an exciting attacking performance.

With four wins, one draw and two narrow losses from their seven matches, the girls finished the day in 3rd place, knowing that they could have been battling for first with a little more consistency throughout the day. It was a great way to finish the season and showed what a long way they have come in just 10 short weeks. DB

2nd Team Hockey

The 2nd Team girls faced a very strong lineup of opponents at the UKSA tournament in Marden. Although the results didn’t go their way, the girls played with real spirit and determination throughout. Several games were closely contested, and the team showed excellent defensive organisation and moments of clever linkup play. Their improvement was clear as the day went on, confidence grew with every match. Despite a challenging run of fixtures, the girls never let their heads drop. Their resilience, teamwork, and positive attitude were outstanding and a true credit to them. A hardworking and character-filled performance.

Well done, girls! DG

U11A Hockey

The team rounded off their season with a hard-fought match against local rivals Somerhill on a bitterly cold afternoon. Somerhill came out strongly, catching us slightly off guard with their pace and intensity in the opening minutes. Two quick goals from the opposition put us on the back foot, with a brief lapse in defensive support proving costly. We went into half-time trailing 0–2.

Following a positive and focused team talk, the girls returned to the pitch with renewed determination. Their work rate increased significantly, and they created several promising chances in the second half. Despite the improved performance, we were unable to convert our opportunities into goals.

A special mention goes to Matilda, who was deservedly named Girl of the Game after producing a series of outstanding saves to keep us firmly in contention.

Although recent results haven’t gone our way, the progress this team has made throughout the season has been evident. Their resilience, teamwork, and growing understanding of the game have been a pleasure to witness. I wish them all the best in their senior hockey, whether at Holmewood or as they move onto new schools next year. Well done girls!! SP

U11B Hockey

The U11B team were eager for action after waiting for the A team’s fixture to finish, and they began the match with real intent. From the first whistle they were positive, confident, and immediately on the attack. Their early pressure was rewarded with two excellent goals from Isla and Darcy, both the result of strong, well-coordinated attacking play. As the match settled, possession became evenly shared, with both teams producing some impressive passages of play.

With no B team goalkeeper, Matilda once again stepped in and delivered another composed and reliable performance in goal. Amelie worked tirelessly throughout the match, covering the pitch with determination and earning the well-deserved title of Girl of the Game.

The U11B team round off their season on an undeniable high, having lost only the very first match of the year—a fantastic achievement. Very well done, girls, and the best of luck in your hockey next year! SP

U11C Hockey

Won 3 2 On a wintry and chilly afternoon the girls played their final hockey match at home and it did not disappoint. In their customary way, there was energy, good decision making, accurate and strong passing with sensible use of the space. Great work from Anne, Sofia and Tavonga who took control of the midfield as well as good running back to defend. Accurate carrying and moving the ball forward at speed from Ellie, Fleur and Anna on the wing. Consistent hits into the D found Ellie and Tavonga both score. Somerhill equalised but we kept our heads and worked collectively and Ellie managed the winning goal. How pleasing to see each player really striving forward with their hockey this term. Well done to Hannah in goal and to POM Anne but all the team should be congratulated. SE.

U11D Hockey

Lost 3 0 Captain Tamzin won the toss and we started with the ball. Good movement and more confident stick skills allowed the team to advance at pace and take the ball into our attacking D. There were numerous attempts to shoot into the goal from Tamzin and Fleur but we were faced with a determined goalie and were unlucky on the day. In defence, Florence W and Olivia worked incredibly hard with strong tackling and great clearances using sensible wide passes to the wing. Annabelle saved a plethora of shots with good reaction and excellent kick outs. A really good effort from the whole team and the girls should be proud of their progress this term. POM Florence and Annabelle. SE

U10 Hockey

The U10s wrapped up their season with an away match at Somerhill. After a snowy morning, the conditions were bitterly cold, but the girls rose to the challenge and gave everything they had. With fewer players than the opposition, many of our girls played two matches back-to-back—which at least kept everyone warm. There was some lovely link-up play from Zara and Sofia, who worked their way down the pitch before feeding the ball to Bonnie, who made the most of every opportunity and scored five goals. Romy, Anni, and Cara were tireless, tracking back to defend and pushing forward in attack, showing real determination. Cecilia and Margot were relentless in chasing down the ball to win possession and convert their efforts into more chances on goal. It was a fantastic team effort and a spirited end to the season. KB

U9 Netball

After just one brief training session on Monday, the U9 girls were excited and ready for their first netball fixtures of the season against Dulwich Prep. Despite the bitterly cold conditions, the girls, well bundled up and thoroughly warmed up, stepped onto the court determined to give their very best.

Across all three games, the teams demonstrated impressive passing and movement, working the ball confidently down the court. Defensive play was another real strength, with the girls showing great awareness and resilience. However, scoring proved challenging for all teams, and we will certainly be focusing on shooting in next week’s preparations ahead of our matches against The Mead.

Overall, it was a promising and spirited first outing of the season. Very well done to all of the girls! SP
