Year 2

This week in Year 2 we have been busy learners! In maths, we have been mastering subtraction, especially those tricky questions where we need to exchange one ten for ten ones. We began by exploring this practically using equipment, and then moved on to using drawings to help us show our working out clearly and confidently.

In art, we travelled back to London in September 1666. The children designed dramatic skylines inspired by the Great Fire of London, using chalk to create fiery skies and black paper to form striking building silhouettes. The results were truly eye-catching!

This week in English, the children completed a reading comprehension activity to learn about Remembrance Day, helping them to understand its significance and why we commemorate it.

We also began our new unit on newspaper articles. The children have been learning how to identify and use capital letters correctly at the beginning of sentences and for proper nouns. They have been practising this skill by adding capital letters and full stops to sentences about the Great Fire.

In addition, we introduced the concept of the five Ws – who, what, where, when, and why – which are essential elements in news reporting. The children then applied their new reporter skills to identify the five Ws in relation to the fire.

We ended the week with lots of smiles as we celebrated Children in Need. Everyone enjoyed wearing their home clothes and tucking into some scrummy Pudsey biscuits during snack time.

Well done for a fantastic week, Year 2! Year 2 Team
