Boys 1st XI vs Hazelwood School
The Senior 1st XI played their final fixture of the season at home to Hazelwood. The match was closely contested throughout, with both teams looking to get on the ball and build play. Hazelwood took the lead in the first half after sustained pressure, but Holmewood responded well, staying organised and patient as the game progressed.
After the break, Holmewood came alive, increasing the tempo and beginning to dominate possession. The pressure paid off when Tom was brought down in the box after a strong attacking run. He confidently stepped up and converted the penalty to level the score at 1–1.
Despite chances at both ends in the closing stages, neither side could find a winner, and the match ended in a well-earned draw. A committed performance and a positive way to finish the season. Well done, boys.
Boys 2nd XI vs Hazelwood School
The 2nd XI rounded off their season with a home fixture against Hazelwood. Holmewood started brightly, creating several clear chances in the opening ten minutes, but despite their early dominance, they were unable to convert their opportunities into goals. Hazelwood gradually settled into the game and, somewhat against the run of play, took the lead shortly before half-time.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Holmewood continuing to press forward but finding themselves frustrated in front of goal. Hazelwood made the most of their chances, adding two more goals to seal a 3–0 win. It was a disappointing result to finish the season on, especially after such a positive start to the match, but the boys can reflect proudly on a term of strong performances, great teamwork, and good spirit throughout.
3rd XI vs Hazelwood School
The last game of the season saw a surge in spectators as our supporter of the year Mrs McGuinness was joined by Mr Jackson and Mr Richardson. The game itself was played in a good spirit and there were some quality football on show as the passing game continued to evolve. The final game end with some landmark achievements. Tadiwa has played for both the 3rd and 4th team and on every occasion he has been chosen by the opposition as the player of the day which is a lovely commendation to be awarded. The second landmark achievement belongs to Arthur who has scored in every game this season. Having looked through all the stats that have ever been recorded from Opta, this has never been replicated at any of the major leagues in Europe! Some slick passing led to both goals which were scored by Teddy and Arthur to give the side an unassailable lead. Congratulations to the team who have now completed an unbeaten season playing against 3rd teams on a Wednesday.
4th Team vs Hazelwood School
A fabulous and well-deserved victory to end a thoroughly enjoyable season. Credit to all those that contributed to the success – on this occasion a dramatic finale with Derek scoring the winning goal with the very last kick of the game.
U11A vs Hazelwood School
Despite a brave effort, the Under-11s were edged out 2–1 in a close and entertaining match. The team started brightly, passing the ball well and creating early chances, but it was the opposition who struck first with a neat finish midway through the first half. The boys didn’t let their heads drop, though, and their hard work was rewarded just before half-time with a tidy equaliser to make it 1–1.
The second half was full of energy, with both sides pushing forward. The defence stood strong for long periods, and the goalkeeper made some excellent saves to keep the team in the game. Unfortunately, a late goal gave the hosts a 2–1 lead. Despite plenty of effort and a few late chances, the team couldn’t find another goal. A proud performance full of teamwork, spirit,
U11B vs Hazelwood School
After a rather tortuous coach journey to Hazelwood, with numerous road works and much traffic, we finally arrived at 2.40pm. We were welcomed to our pitch and after a brisk but energetic passing warm up, the boys were ready for the final football kick off of the season. It had already been so memorable and unbeaten and tournament winners, but could they claim the unbeaten season! Time would tell on a very wet, muddy pitch. The boys were really up for it and put in another strong, gutsy, battling performance, winning all the 50/50 challenges. After some half chances came and went and Holmewood took the lead with a very well taken goal by William – “our golden boot” boy and leading goal scorer. He soon added a second to make it 13 for the season and Aleksey got on the end of a well worked move – 3-0. Then something that I have never seen in 36 years of Prep School Football our goalkeeper Monty got on the scoresheet, with a goal from his punt out of his hands. 4-0 and the half time whistle blew. Staying strong, focus, concentration was the key message delivered at half time. Although the boys tired a bit on a very heavy pitch, Hazelwood rallied, as we knew they would and scored one back, just before the final whistle. What a performance – gritty, gutsy and determined —what a season. An unbeaten one! Well done boys – I am so proud of each of you – such great teamwork and passing football. A season to long remember!
PM-J – a proud coach!

The boys are a physical and fair team who have a real desire to win. It has been a pleasure coaching this team this season and I have been so proud of their achievements.

U8A vs Hilden Grange School
The team have come such a long way this year and it was befitting that the teams performance was the deciding factor and helped the team to a 3-1 victory. The passing and the spatial awareness has been a highlight of the teams progress and this is something they should continue to focus on next year. Toju was given the accolade of player of the day from the opposition for his outstanding defending but the improvement of passing from Arlo, Leo and Hampshire should also be recognised. Aurelian should also be noted for his George Best impression as he danced round the opposition along with some strong tackling. Well done everyone for all their efforts this year.
U8B vs Hilden Grange School
The U8B team hosted Hazelwood in their final match of the season and produced a performance full of determination, teamwork and attacking flair. Hazelwood brought plenty of physicality, but their compact shape allowed Holmewood to find space out wide and use the winger, Charlie and Arthur to good effect.
Albert was at the heart of the action, winning the ball back brilliantly on two occasions before driving into the box and finishing across the goalkeeper to score two excellent goals. Holmewood continued to look threatening going forward, frequently breaking in behind the defence, but a scrambling Hazelwood back line did well to keep the scoreline close.
The boys kept their discipline, and it was Oscar who eventually added a well-taken third goal to put Holmewood 3–0 ahead and secure a deserved win. A fantastic way to end the season — full of energy, progress and confidence. Well done, U8Bs!
