Year 2

This Week in Class

This week, the children became young scientists as they carried out an exciting experiment to discover which ball would bounce the highest. Together, we discussed how to make it a fair test, the meaning of a prediction, and the importance of following a method. After recording their results, the children drew thoughtful conclusions about what they had observed. It was a wonderful way to learn about scientific thinking through hands-on investigation—and lots of bouncing fun!

2RL gave a wonderful assembly on Thursday morning on the Autumn Equinox. They delivered their lines so confidently and eloquently, and their final song brought great joy to the start of the day. Well done 2RL. Rose Lee

This week in English, we have been planning our own adventure for Michael to go on, inspired by the book Dear Teacher by Amy Husband. We used picture prompts to help us plan, then acted out our adventures in groups before performing our plays to the class. Afterwards, we planned our individual stories and wrote our own letters to Miss Brooks, explaining why we were going to be late for school. Catherine Thorley

This week in art we learnt about the artist and sculpture Michelle Reader. We used a selection of different materials to make monsters!

In Science this week, Year 2 carried out their very first investigation! The children tested how high different balls could bounce, using their knowledge of materials and their properties. They learnt how to make a hypothesis and prediction, and explored the idea of a fair test by identifying which variables should stay the same and which ones to change. After completing the investigation the class analysed their results and enjoyed discussing what their findings showed. Katie Mackay
