In Art, our young artists have been exploring self-portraits! Using mirrors to closely study their facial features, they mixed paints to create just the right tones for skin, hair, and eyes – resulting in some truly thoughtful and expressive work. Over in Maths, we’ve been diving deeper into number partitioning, practising counting in 10s and 1s, and learning to estimate where numbers belong on a number line. This week in Forest School, our Year 2 children got creative with nature! The class had a fantastic time making leaf-kites and crafting beautiful coloured-paper photo frames, decorated with colourful autumn leaves. The children loved exploring textures, shapes, and patterns while connecting with the outdoors.
This week in Science, we explored how the shape of objects made from different materials can be changed. We discovered that a force is a push, a pull, or a twist. The children enjoyed experimenting with a variety of materials and observing how they responded to different types of force.
World Mental Health Day
As part of World Mental Health Day, we embraced the idea of ‘Tea and Talk’. Mrs O’Sullivan hosted a tea party in her office with over 100 children coming to sip tea, eat cake and share some fine conversations. There was even an impromptu dance party! There was also other get together events before school, during break and after school to make sure everyone had that chance to chat and talk with someone they trust.

We were thrilled to welcome so many families to our recent Open Morning — especially those exploring Nursery and Pre-Prep!
We were delighted by the wonderful turnout and the excitement around our Early Years provision. With our Nursery open 46 weeks a year, Holmewood offers families greater flexibility and an extraordinary place for children to begin their learning journey.
Huge thanks to our parent volunteers and Year 8 guides for leading tours, and to Ruth O’Sullivan, Nell Bond, and Laura Readman for their inspiring talks.
Visitors also enjoyed music from our Year 3s, Choristers Choir, and talented instrumentalists.
Special mention to our Year 8 speakers, who shared how Holmewood has prepared them for their futures at Tonbridge School and Brighton College.
