Year 3

French

As part of their topic on food, Year 3 have been learning the names of the different fruits. Last week, we made chatterboxes, practising how to give our opinion on the different fruits. ). This week, pupils got to taste some common biscuits and pastries, deciding whether they would go into the “j’aime” or “je n’aime pas” category. A fun hands-on lesson!  Mme Simpson

Visit to the Horse Graves

Year 3 have spent this term exploring the new Holmewood House Heritage Trail as part of their history curriculum. They have learnt about what Holmewood House was like when it was owned by the Barrow family and run as an extensive Victorian country estate. They have found out about its links with the Second World War. They have discovered lots of stories about what it was like in the late 1940’s when it was an all boys’ school and they have located many fragments of the past that can still be found within the school grounds.

This week they ventured over to visit the Barrow family’s horse graves in the next door property. They found out about Miss Emily’s Barrow’s favourite horse Peter who was saved from being requisitioned for the First World War and hidden in a nearby hayloft. They considered the difficult choices people had to make when meeting the demands of the war effort. Catherine Duncumb

Art – Ink Trees

Studying the patterns and shapes of trees then drawing them and experimenting with acrylic inks and colours. We tried loading brushes with clean water and flooding the paper to let the ink flow through the branches. Tom Johnson / Keith Siddle
