Last Friday Year 8 pupils took part in two amazing events in support of Porchlight- a Kent based homelessness charity. During the day, pupils walked all the way around Bewl Water- some thirteen miles on one of the hottest days of the year so far. This was a fine achievement by all and they kept up a good pace for the whole walk, before having a well-deserved ice cream at the end.
In the evening 40 pupils returned to school for 7.30pm for the sleep out. Decked in purple with Porchlight T shirts to wear for the evening, the pupils set about building their homes for the night out of cardboard and The Cloisters became cardboard city for the night. Thunder, lightning and some heavy rain were not enough to dampen the spirit of these gallant pupils.
It was lovely to welcome a representative from Porchlight to give a powerful and moving presentation to the group about the causes of homelessness, how Porchlight has turned the lives around of many people and indeed the guest speaker had spent time sleeping rough on the streets. The children listened intently to a marvellous talk about the charity.
Please do continue to give generously to this remarkable charity- donate here– in support of the efforts of our Year 8 children.
My grateful thanks to Mr Bennett and Mr Wildman who also stayed awake all night and to Miss Betts for her fabulous help and support. Paul Morgan-Jones
