Sports Day

Year 1 had a fantastic time at Sports Day on Tuesday. It was fantastic to see the children showing off the skills they have learned in PE this year. We were so proud of the children for giving everything their best effort. It was lovely to see them cheering on for one another and celebrating everyone. What fabulous sportsmanship! The sunshine came out for us which was fantastic. Highlights included the egg (potato) and spoon race, the sack race and the highly competitive relay race. What a brilliant afternoon! The quad fell silent this morning as the school came together for its annual Remembrance Day service.

Led by Mr Morgan-Jones, with heartfelt readings from Mrs O’Sullivan, four Pre-Prep pupils, and our Head Boy and Head Girl, we honoured all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service.

A British Royal Legion wreath was laid beneath the Oak tree, and another at the base of the Oliver Dicketts memorial tree — remembering Oliver (1979–2006), an Old Holmewoodian who gave his life while serving with NATO forces. Forever in our hearts.

We were honoured to welcome Oliver’s parents, Robert and Priscilla, and Alison and Clive Brown, whose son Tom — also an Old Holmewoodian — is currently serving in the Welsh Guards.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.
