Senior 1st XI vs Dulwich Cranbrook

On a damp afternoon, Holmewood hosted DPS Cranbrook for what became a rain-affected but memorable encounter. With the weather interrupting play, the match was shortened to a 16-over format. Winning the toss, we elected to field first and quickly found our rhythm.

Despite tricky conditions, we restricted Dulwich to 85 for 7. Joseph A (1 for 7) and Rafferty J (1 for 22) bowled with precision, but it was Tommy P who stole the show, taking a stunning 5 for 13—including a dramatic hat-trick with the final three balls of the innings. A remarkable individual performance!

After a further rain delay during tea, we returned to the crease with intent. Tommy  completed a match-winning all-round display by scoring 50 not out, ably supported by Finn with 18 not out. We chased down the total with ease to win by 8 wickets.

This result keeps the boys unbeaten at the halfway point of the term—three matches played, three victories. A fantastic start to the season!

U10C vs Hawthorns First School

In a thrilling pairs cricket match against Hawthorns, our team clinched a narrow 2-run victory after chasing down a target of 72 runs. Hawthorns batted first and posted a competitive total, but tight bowling and sharp fielding kept them in check. Chasing 73, our batters showed composure under pressure, steadily building the score. A tense final over saw us edge past the target, finishing on 74. A fantastic all-round team effort sealed a memorable win!

Well done boys! DG

U9 Surrey vs Marlborough House School

In a closely contested U9 pairs match against Marlborough House, we won the toss and elected to bat first. All our batters contributed brilliantly with great teamwork to post a strong total of 72 runs without losing a wicket. In response, Marlborough batted well, but disciplined bowling and sharp fielding from us kept them to 54 runs, with two wickets taken. A strong all-round performance earned us an 18-run win in an exciting match.

There are few things to work on but brilliant effort boys! DG

U9 Sussex

With some of the boys away at a tournament, it was a great opportunity for pupils to step up. Marlborough House showed their strength from the start and despite some accurate bowling from Emilio and Senan, they got off to a flying start. There followed some accurate bowling from Theo and George which pegged back the opposition. There were 2 great catches from George and Theo which contributed to the 5 wickets that the team managed to take. The oppo scored 263 runs in their innings.

In their innings despite only losing 3 wickets, Holmewood just fell short of the target. Some strong hitting from George and Theo in the middle of the innings gave us a chance of victory but some accurate bowling from Marlborough House at the end restricted us to 258.

A great all round performance that everyone should be proud of. SJ

U8B vs Marlborough House School

The U8s hosted two Marlborough House teams for an enjoyable afternoon of cricket. The U8B team batted first and showed great enthusiasm, especially in their willingness to run whenever they made contact with the ball. A few well-struck boundaries and opportunistic running helped build a solid score, despite some erratic bowling from the visitors.

In the field, our bowling was accurate and purposeful, although the boys occasionally lost focus between deliveries. Nevertheless, their understanding of the game is clearly developing. Given the limited training time this half of term, their progress has been commendable.

We’re excited to see their continued growth and look forward to much more cricket after the break.
