RSS continue to be `busy bees` in the class. 😊 On Monday we celebrated how are all different by wearing odd socks.
They proudly wore their poppies for the Remembrance ceremony and managed to stand very still and quietly.
In Phonics we are working hard to segment and blend sounds to read simple words to help with our reading.
The children drew on their experience of watching the fireworks last week to make their own firework pictures using different types of lines - lots of amazing fireworks!
The challenge this week was learning to use a mouse and log on using a username and a password in the computing suite. Its amazing how many of them thought they could use the screen as a touch screen 😊

👏 Photography Competition 2025/6 📸
Wow! Thank you to everyone who entered our photography competition. The standard has been exceptional, with diverse and wonderful habitats captured on camera.
The entries will be judged over the Christmas holiday by Paul Collard, who worked for Kodak in the film laboratories and later as a Film and Digital Consultant, restoring old films to colour. The photos will be judged against the brief ‘HABITATS’ and for their composition and colour. We’re sure this will be an extremely difficult decision for Paul, as the entries are all so varied and of such high quality.
There will be a Lower School (3 & 4) winner and runner-up, and then a winner and runner up from Years 5 – 8, as well as an overall winner. All winning entries from Lower School and Years 5–8 will be displayed in the Collison Corridor.
Thank you again to all pupils who took part. It’s been a really exciting project to work on, with such a high level across the board.

This summer our wonderful charity and alumni ambassador PMJ visited Malawi, Zambia and South Africa seeing how money from Holmewood’s second hand uniform shop helps children in Africa. This is in conjunction to the two UK charities they also support - Dandelion Time and The Children’s Respite Trust.
First up was a visit to a local village near Blantyre, Malawi where he helped at a maize Pap feeding programme.
He then travelled to Lusaka, Zambia to visit Shine, a charity which is committed to eliminating illiteracy among poor and vulnerable children. Shine was founded by the uncle of two former Holmewood House pupils and is fabulously supported by Holmewood House’s second-hand uniform shop.
PMJ’s trip ended in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Here he helped at Heatherbank Township community school where the second hand uniform shop has provide the library, ICT area, playing fields and poly tunnels. Old Holmewoodian Christan Levack raised money for Heatherbank’s game shed and equipment by climbing Mount Snowdon.

and see what an incredible difference Holmewood House is making to these most vulnerable children.
