Year 8

Well done to Hannah

On Monday we celebrated our Design a Menu Competition with the Winner’s menu being made by our wonderful chefs from Culinera. Hannah beat off competition from over 200 other entries with her menu being described as popular and fun, creative and likely to reduce food waste. It was really well received and will now form part of our regular menu choices.

We are committed to providing both balanced and nutritious meals for our pupils and educating them about healthy eating via our My Heart, My Mind, My World lessons. We have been studying about different food groups, portion sizes, sustainability and the value of eating meals together.

To continue our celebration of food, we are pleased to announce our first live cook along, on the evening of Friday 25th April. Our Head Chef Richard will be showing everyone how to cook a simple, yet scrumptious family meal, which you can do at the same time at home. We will be sending out a set of ingredients to prepare ready for this exciting evening. More details will follow at the start of next term. Simon Porter

Maths – Chocolate

In the final double of the term, some of Year 8 were tasked to find the best value of the many different ways Cadbury sell their classic milk chocolate. Prices seemed to have soared at Easter, even for the non-Easter products! By working out the cost per gram and double checking each other’s calculations, they ordered all the chocolate from best value to worse. The Dairy milk rabbit came off worse at a whopping 3p per gram and the Dairy milk little bars won the show with a far more reasonable 1.29p per gram, showing picking your type of product makes quite a difference! Some of the chocolate of course had to be tested as a reward for their calculations. Alison Tripp
