Regional IAPS Qualifiers

On Friday, 34 Holmewoodians from years 5-8 travelled to The Julie Rose Stadium in Ashford to compete in the Regional IAPS athletics qualifiers. All our athletes performed brilliantly across several disciplines including sprinting, long jump, high jump and hurdles.  Congratulations to our qualifiers who will now go to the finals on 3rd July:

James: 100m and Long Jump

Ethan: Long Jump

Zach:  High Jump

Ayanfe: 100m and 200m

Tiffany: 70m Hurdles and Long Jump

Tife: 70m Hurdles

Emily: 1500m

U13 Girls 4 x 100m relay (Tiffany, Ayanfe, Maz and Adanna).

Lydia Carter, Head of Music, said “Matilda impressed Eastbourne`s Director of Music with her determination and musicality combined with thorough preparation which earned her a music scholarship as a cellist, flautist and singer! An amazing achievement for someone who until a month before her scholarship had never sung solo before!”⁠

🎨 Art meets Forest School 🌿

In Art, Year 3 have been making ceramic candle holders. Starting with slab-rolled terracotta with press-moulded and stamped details, their holders went in the kiln for the first bisque-firing. Pupils then applied two coats of the brush-on glazes before the second glaze firing.

This week, their holders came to life in Forest School as the children added the wick and poured in beeswax melted over the fire. It was a calming, focused activity set in the peace of the outdoors, and a wonderful chance for the children to see their patience and effort rewarded as their project finally came together. We think the finished candles look brilliant.

Our Head of Pre-Prep, Laura Readman, and Head of Early Years, Sheilagh Schweitzer, will be sharing their expert insights and practical strategies to help your child begin school feeling happy, secure, and ready to learn. Optional tour of our Reception facilities including Forest School, swimming pool, Sports Hall and beautiful South Lawn. All parents welcome.
