🎶 Music in Pre-Prep 🎵 In Pre-Prep we are lucky to have 9 specialist music teachers offering lessons in a wide range of instruments including piano, violin, cello, saxophone, clarinet, trumpet and recorder. Many of our pupils learn an instrument, and every child in Year 2 takes part in our Recorder Karate programme which is an amazing introduction for anyone interested in either woodwind or brass in Prep. Pre-Prep pupils perform in three concerts each year in the Jubilee Theatre, with the option to perform in our informal Good Morning Performing concerts on Thursday mornings too. Every Pre-Prep year group also enjoys weekly music lessons with the outstanding Mr Parker, a 2023 Classic FM Music Teacher of the Year shortlister. He directs the much-loved Nativities and Summer Shows as well, ensuring every child has the chance to shine. Music is truly woven into the fabric of our school from the beginning. Our commitment to music and performing arts has been recognised in the 2025 Independent Schools of the Year Awards (Winners - Performing Arts), the 2025 Muddy Stilettos Best Schools Awards (Finalists - Dynamic Performing Arts), and the 2025 Education Choices Awards (Finalists - Opportunities in Art and Music). TESTIMONIALS WHAT OUR STUDENTS & PARENTS HAVE TO SAY
Parent
Just wanted to express our thanks for this term. What a year! We’ve been utterly impressed by HH’s approach and care. We feel very grateful to be at this school and for the wonderful start in life it has given our children.
Prospective Parent
We both through that the school was superb – in fact as we were driving off of the property, we remarked that it was faultless across the board. We both feel that our children would thrive at Holmewood.
Pupil
“Thank you for your ongoing efforts in making Holmewood such a safe and nurturing place to grow, take risks, make mistakes and be curious, where the children are well known by their teachers and your team to help them navigate their course to growing confidence, leadership and empathy for helping others”.
Parent
“Our son ia a typical boy – great at maths, loves sports, hates writing!! But one of the teachers spotted that it was more than this … he was assessed and has dyslexia. Contrary to what many people may think, both we and the school see this positively – with the support of the Learning Support team, he now has a greater chance of reaching his true academic potential. Already, as a result of typing rather than doing handwritten work, he has discovered a new found love of creative writing and huge confidence in comprehension.”
Pupil
“I like playing in the garden and growing flowers and vegetables.”
Pupil
“The amount of opportunities we are offered is incredible and the teachers are all very helpful and friendly.”
Parent
“Communication at Holmewood is very good and they offer a number of opportunities each term for parents to attend both educational and pastoral forums.”
Pupil
“Holmewood house is a very good school which helps pupils feel at home and can adapt to suit you. I enjoy maths the most because my teacher makes you try to do things for yourself and he is very supportive.”
Parent
“I feel privileged to send my children to a school where teachers care so much and are able to work in such small class sizes.”
Age 18
I do believe that all my successes in life so far stem from my years at Holmewood. As well as providing a brilliant academic base, the nurturing from the teachers is like nothing else, and I cannot thank you enough for that.
Parent
“Holmewood offers a unique education in a safe and supportive environment for children of all ages.”
Parent
The chaperone service that Holmewood House offers has meant that our son has been able to access the best of both worlds, a country boarding school during the week where he can enjoy the space and facilities which are very hard to come by in London and then is able to come home every Friday to enjoy a full weekend with family. It is extremely convenient to be able to pick him up & drop off from central London & is workable on top of the other commitments I have! He looks forward to his trips on the train where he gets any unfinished homework done and then is able to relax at home
