A DAY & BOARDING PREP SCHOOL IN TUNBRIDGE WELLS, KENT
Holmewood House prep school in Tunbridge Wells is very much a family school where the positive relationships between the teachers and pupils allows us to get to know and understand the individual needs of each and every child.
We foster their talents and nurture their growth through a broad, balanced, challenging and exciting curriculum and, in doing so, create an environment whereby each child is provided with every opportunity to fulfil their potential. We believe that emotional and social well-being, self-esteem, happiness and confidence are of prime importance and are in themselves inextricably linked to academic progress.
Holmewood House is a co-educational, non-selective school for boys and girls aged 3-13 years, situated in 30 acres of glorious grounds in Tunbridge Wells.
The wonderful environment and outstanding facilities provide a strong framework upon which the ethos of ‘allowing children to be children can be achieved.

National Storytelling Week - a celebration of the power of sharing stories It was great to welcome best selling children`s author, Tom Palmer, to Holmewood to help us celebrate National Storytelling Week and the National Year of Reading. The author of over 60 children`s books, Tom has been described by Booktrust as "a true reading hero" and "responsible for motivating many thousands of young people to get into books.” Y5-8 enjoyed a talk where they heard about Tom`s motivation to become a writer, how he overcame his fears of writing and the fun aspects of researching his books such as camping in a football stadium and taking a voyage on a ship to the arctic. Tom kept his audience captivated at breaktime by being our mystery reader in the Story Cafe. He then spoke to the children about his journey from reluctant reader to best selling author, and some of the children were lucky enough to receive a signed copy of one of his books. #authorvisit #reading #NationalYearOfReading #GoAllIn2026 #HolmewoodHouseSchool #TunbridgeWells

We are delighted to welcome two pupils from China, who are joining us for a two-week immersion programme.
During their time here, they will have the opportunity to explore British culture, practise their English in real‑world situations and build new friendships. They are staying in our newly refurbished boarding house and will experience everything a British boarding prep school education has to offer, along with some fantastic trips.
By the end of their stay, we hope the boys will have strengthened their English, grown in independence and gained a clearer understanding of what it means to learn and live in the UK. Welcome to the UK, Welcome to Holmewood! #immersion #iloveboarding #Holmewoodboarding #HolmewoodHouseSchool #TunbridgeWells

TESTIMONIALS WHAT OUR STUDENTS & PARENTS HAVE TO SAY
Parent
Just wanted to express our thanks for this term. What a year! We’ve been utterly impressed by HH’s approach and care. We feel very grateful to be at this school and for the wonderful start in life it has given our children.
Prospective Parent
We both through that the school was superb – in fact as we were driving off of the property, we remarked that it was faultless across the board. We both feel that our children would thrive at Holmewood.
Pupil
“Thank you for your ongoing efforts in making Holmewood such a safe and nurturing place to grow, take risks, make mistakes and be curious, where the children are well known by their teachers and your team to help them navigate their course to growing confidence, leadership and empathy for helping others”.
Parent
“Our son ia a typical boy – great at maths, loves sports, hates writing!! But one of the teachers spotted that it was more than this … he was assessed and has dyslexia. Contrary to what many people may think, both we and the school see this positively – with the support of the Learning Support team, he now has a greater chance of reaching his true academic potential. Already, as a result of typing rather than doing handwritten work, he has discovered a new found love of creative writing and huge confidence in comprehension.”
Pupil
“I like playing in the garden and growing flowers and vegetables.”
Pupil
“The amount of opportunities we are offered is incredible and the teachers are all very helpful and friendly.”
Parent
“Communication at Holmewood is very good and they offer a number of opportunities each term for parents to attend both educational and pastoral forums.”
Pupil
“Holmewood house is a very good school which helps pupils feel at home and can adapt to suit you. I enjoy maths the most because my teacher makes you try to do things for yourself and he is very supportive.”
Parent
“I feel privileged to send my children to a school where teachers care so much and are able to work in such small class sizes.”
Age 18
I do believe that all my successes in life so far stem from my years at Holmewood. As well as providing a brilliant academic base, the nurturing from the teachers is like nothing else, and I cannot thank you enough for that.
Parent
“Holmewood offers a unique education in a safe and supportive environment for children of all ages.”
Parent
The chaperone service that Holmewood House offers has meant that our son has been able to access the best of both worlds, a country boarding school during the week where he can enjoy the space and facilities which are very hard to come by in London and then is able to come home every Friday to enjoy a full weekend with family. It is extremely convenient to be able to pick him up & drop off from central London & is workable on top of the other commitments I have! He looks forward to his trips on the train where he gets any unfinished homework done and then is able to relax at home
