Our Year 7 Geographers had a great field trip to Birling Gap and, despite the weather conspiring against them, were able to fully explore this beautiful coastline.
The focus of the trip was on river and coastal features, the processes that shape them, and how these landscapes can be managed. The spectacular views over the Cuckmere River and its floodplain were an ideal way to see these processes in panorama.
At the beach they investigated evidence of coastal erosion, took on a stone-stacking challenge and searched for the roundest, smallest, and smoothest pebbles as evidence of attrition, one of the key coastal processes studied this term.

A huge congratulations to Aleksey, Charlie, Winter and Ellie, who represented Holmewood House at the @iapsuksport National Swimming Finals at the London Aquatics Centre.
All four swimmers performed exceptionally well against some of the strongest competition in the country. Qualifying for this event is a tremendous achievement, with only the top 20 swimmers in each event progressing from the regional heats.
• Aleksey qualified 5th for the final and finished 6th overall gaining two PBs along the way
• Winter smashed her PB by over a second, finishing 15th overall
• Ellie swam brilliantly in the 50m Butterfly to take an impressive 12th place overall. She narrowly missed out on a place in the final by just a few tenths of a second
• Charlie competed in the 50m Butterfly, also securing an excellent 12th place finish overall and PB
A special thank you to Mrs Bradbury and Ms Bowman for supporting our swimmers throughout the weekend.
A huge well done to all four swimmers for their dedication, hard work, and fantastic performances. We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved.
