On Monday 24th June all of Year 7 ventured to Arena Pursuits at Flimwell. The day was designed to develop team work, test design skills and develop leadership. Tasks included running an assault course, building a raft to get all members of the team across a stretch of water, including the use of barrels, ropes and a pallet, designing apparatus to lift a bucket half full of water on to a platform 5 metres off the ground, propelling the whole team across an imaginary field of boiling lava on a vehicle using barrels, planks of wood and metal poles to create the axle, and a map reading exercise in the woods to find clues, together with a mathematical challenge to move 5 tyres in a set order in the minimum number of moves possible. Use of ropes and learning to tie knots tightly were also key skills! The pupils learnt a huge amount about themselves, about working as a team, listening to each other and the importance of using planning time effectively. A great day out in a beautiful location on the edge of Bewl Water.
