Kent youngsters to train at five schools

Kent Cricket has established partnerships with five schools in a bid to increase support for the county's top young cricketing talent.

More than 60 boys and girls aged between 12 and 15 will be allocated to their nearest performance partner school and attend regular training sessions leading into the season.

Each player will work on a specific coaching programme at five performance partner schools: Eltham College, Holmewood House School (Tunbridge Wells), St Dunstan’s College (Catford), St Lawrence College (Ramsgate) and Sutton Valence School (Maidstone).

The schools boast great facilities where the players will receive specialist coaching include former Kent and England wicketkeeper Geraint Jones (St Lawrence College), former Kent all-rounder Vince Wells (Sutton Valence School), Yasir Arafat (Eltham College) and current Kent players will support the sessions.

Former Zimbabwe international Mark Dekker, Community Cricket Officer at Kent Cricket, said: “We are very fortunate in Kent to have so many schools dedicated to cricket development.

“The players involved will benefit from having access to good facilities and coaching closer to home.  We’re excited to work with the five schools for 2017/18 season and are continuing discussions with others.”
