It was one of Holmewood’s best performances at the IAPS annual national championships. More than 300 gymnasts competed at Kent College and all four of our teams put in great performances against very strong opposition. The U9’s led the way with an impressive double, silver medals in both team and group sequence competitions. Carolina secured their top mark of 8.8 on set vault and the 6th place individual medal. All five gymnasts finished in the top half of their group which was a great achievement. Not to be outdone the U10’s won team bronze and were 4th in the group sequence competition. Cecily finished in individual 4th place position and tied with Betsy for their team’s top score, 8.8 on set floor. Betsy, competing in a team above her actual age did exceptionally well to finish in eighth position. The U11 team had very tough opposition and were unlucky to miss out on a team medal by just .2. Miya scored a magnificent 9.05 on set floor and at the end of the competition just 0.05 separated Miya and Holly. Not to be outdone the U13 team also got on to the podium with team bronze. Evie won the individual 5th place medal and had the highest team score of the day, 9.2 on set vault. The coaches are delighted if our gymnasts get into the high 7’s but everyone got into the 8’s. To achieve marks of 9+ is exceptional at this level of competition. Calculations then take place on the results of each school that has entered a minimum of three teams into the four piece competition and Holmewood came out on top!
This was a just reward for all our gymnasts who have shown such keenness and dedication. They really are an inspiration. Sincere thanks to our parents for all their support in the run up to the championship and on the day.
