The Learning Support Department follows a multisensory approach to learning, enabling all pupils to access the curriculum based on their preferred learning style. To achieve this, a variety of resources is employed.
Word Shark – a computer based spelling program, based on a structured multisensory program of work. A fun series of games reinforce and consolidate learning. There is also a similar Maths program called Number Shark.
Nessy Games Player – a structured phonetically based programme designed for dyslexic pupils to improve their reading, spelling and writing tools.
Memory Booster – a stimulating way to improve memory. It is a computer program that is effective because it teaches flexible memory strategies and takes the pupil through enjoyable exercises that develop and extend learning skills.
Alpha Smart Notepads – The department will use these small laptops to encourage touch typing skills, as an additional tool for producing structured, well presented written work. In certain cases, pupils can take the notepad into their lesson and use it for extended pieces of written work.
Other tried and tested resources are used as and when considered appropriate.
