In a week with mixed weather we were fortunate enough to play Hazelwood at U10 and senior level.
2nd Team Cricket
Holmewood House scored 308 runs for 1.
Hazelwood scored 250 runs for 6 wickets.
We welcomed Hazelwood and Captain Rosie elected to bat. A very strong start from Maz and Rosie who managed 2 sixes in the first over and gave us a great score of 37 from 16 balls from which to build. Blanca and Trixie followed suit with a free flowing 33 runs including 5 fours. Solid support from the rest of the team. An excellent 308 for Hazelwood to chase. As Hazelwood came with a team of 6, we rotated players accordingly, kindly filling in as necessary. We put on a great display of athleticism, quick reaction and accurate handling. Rosie bowled 3 wickets, Trixie 2 and a superb run out from Bella with a bullet ball to wicket which beat the batter convincingly. Good sharp fielding from everyone -in particular Davincia at wicket keeper and Sofia and Tilly in the outfield. Plenty of dot balls contained their total to 250.
Well done to Maz, Saskia, Davincia, Tilly, Bella, Sofia, Blanca and POM Bowler Trixie and Batter Rosie. SE
3rd Team Cricket
A different team to our usual due to no 1st or 4th team match and fewer year 8s, Hazelwood struggled with numbers and only had 5. We won the toss and fielded first, we were only able to have 6 players on the pitch and therefore the girls sitting out were on rotation. Best bowler was Sofia who conceded -1 runs in an over, followed by Alicia who conceded 0 runs in an over.
A target of 62 for Holmewood to beat in the second innings – the girls were advised to not take risks and leave wides. One of our team was a fielder for Hazelwood on rotation. Best batter was Charlotte Cox with 1 runs in an over, followed by Iris and Isla with 16 runs in an over. Hazelwood selected Megan as the best batter and Charlotte Cox as the best bowler. TD
U10A Team Cricket
I had the real pleasure of taking the U10 team this week and the girls were exemplary in their play, sportsmanship and behaviour against the opposition at Hazelwood.
Ellie won the toss as captain and put Holmewood into field which was a great decision. Playing 8 ball overs, Darcie opened the bowling with good line, length and speed. She took a wicket and with only a few singles scored in the over finished with only 1 from the over. Marsaili also had a great over with only 4 runs being scored from her bowling. Flora took 2 wickets from catches and Myra also took a great wicket. Alice was nominated as bowler of the game by the opposition and with a score of 49, Holmewood went into bat. Again, the openers in Darcie and Marsaili got off to a great start scoring 31 runs between them, but batter of the day was most certainly Temi who score 32 runs, hitting five 4’s and a 6. Giving a few wickets away in the last over we still had enough in the bark to go on and win
scoring 83 runs. A great effort by the whole team and some great potential coming up through the school. Very well done to Darcie, Marsaili, Flora, Temi. Myra, Alice, Tavonga and Ellie. SP
U10B Cricket
Our U10 B team started the match fielding against Hazelwood, with some great efforts resulting in wickets taken by Sofia, Bea, Darcy, and Amelie. Despite our best efforts, Hazelwood posted a strong total of 71 runs.
Heading in to bat, our team showed real determination, looking for every opportunity to score. The improvement in our communication was clear to see, helping us keep the scoreboard ticking over.
In the end, we managed to edge ahead with a final score of 72. It was a fantastic, evenly-matched game and a lovely win for the team! KB
Under 10C Cricket
The team put in another good performance against strong opposition to extend their unbeaten run this season. Hazelwood won the toss and opted to send HH in to bat first. Hazelwood bowled very straight, but HH were able to find the gaps in the field – managing to score five boundaries across their innings. Some great striking from Matilda and Florence in particular saw HH set a fantastic score of 56. Hazelwood batted next, scoring a couple of boundaries early on. Soon HH tightened up the field and in the end restricted Hazelwood to only 48 runs! A really positive display which included a fantastic bowling wicket and some good fielding. BW
