This week in Y2 we have started to learn how to tell the time. We have also been busy writing our own version of the Africa Tinga Tinga Tales “why the lion roars’. Katie Mackay
Today marked the first of several exciting transition events for our Year 2 pupils as they begin preparing for their move to Year 3 next term. Although wet weather kept us off the South Lawn for breaktime with Year 3, spirits remained high as the children enjoyed exploring the Year 3 classrooms, making new friends, and spending time with their future teachers. We are really looking forward to our Speech and Prizegiving Day next weekend, which is one of the highlights of the Holmewood year. It’s a true celebration of our prep children and their fantastic achievements, and a special moment to honour our Year 8s before they move on to senior school and become Old Holmewoodians.
This year’s guest speaker is the remarkable Andrew Patterson, a former international cricketer, devoted father and an inspiration. Diagnosed with a rare neurological condition and told he’d need a wheelchair for life, he raised £70,000 for pioneering surgery, taught himself to walk again, and completed a 5K run just months later.
We can’t wait to welcome him, and our Holmewood families, next weekend.

🎵 Singing for Wellbeing in Pre-Prep 🎶
Our wonderful Year 1 teacher, Sarah Ravenscroft, has been bringing singing for wellbeing into the circle for our pre prep children. She says “holding the children together through song allows us all to regulate our nervous systems, slow down our breath and feel rooted as we enter a busy school day. The children are all learning to sing by ear, connecting to the words of each song and the feelings we all receive as we listen to one another sing through each song. It is truly magical!…I feel it is incredibly important that this way of coming together to sing can be a part of their young busy lives.”
A great note to start the day on!
