Senior 1st XI vs Sevenoaks School

The 1st XI cricket pitch looked absolutely at its best for the first match of the season. Our opponents were Sevenoaks, and much of the talk beforehand was whether we could give them a good game and do justice to our wonderfully prepared pitch and outfield. We lost the toss and Sevenoaks chose to bat first. We bowled very well and gave very little away. Our fielding was sharp, and we kept things tight. Sevenoaks managed 129 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs.

After tea, we batted patiently, waiting for the bad balls. When they came, we punished them, while also rotating the strike smartly to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
The runs kept coming, and eventually, we won the game with two overs to spare.

Well done, boys! Everyone contributed, but a special mention goes to our captain, Tommy P, who led from the front.

This was a fantastic win that sets us up nicely for the 2025 cricket season!

Senior 2nd XI vs Sevenoaks School

A really promising first outing for the 2nd XI, beginning with strong batting performances. Charlie W scored a hard-hitting 50, and Charles W played a technically excellent innings of 44—surely heading for a half-century if not for the pressure of time.

We started our bowling with a bang: Jack Y took a caught-and-bowled from the first ball of the innings. However, a strong batting performance from Sevenoaks saw them home with overs to spare.

In the field, the standout was Beracah, who took two good catches and fielded superbly throughout.

Senior 3rd XI vs Sevenoaks School

The boys’ 3rd XI lost away at Sevenoaks by 84 runs.

Playing with one fewer fielder made life difficult, and unfortunately, we gave away too many wickets and dropped a few catches, allowing the opposition to build a big advantage.

William was the pick of the batters with 7 runs, while Pelumi stood out among the bowlers, taking 2 for 4 from his two overs.

U11A vs Vinehall School

On a gloriously warm April afternoon—yes, April!—the Colts cricket season got underway with an away match against Vinehall. In a beautiful setting under a clear blue sky, many parents gathered to watch the action. Thank you, parents, for your amazing support—the cricket season was underway. Yippee!

Captain Louis lost the toss and we were asked to bat (we would have batted first anyway). Very quickly we were 8 for 2, having lost Arlo and Ethan early. A rebuilding partnership followed, with Edmund scoring 43 and Joel finishing 46 not out. Captain Louis added a rapid 28 not out, including some fierce blows to the boundary. We finished on 148 for 3 from our 20 overs.

After tea, our two left-arm bowlers, Rafe and Lavinia, opened the attack. Rafe finished with 1 for 4 from 2 overs, and Lavinia with 2 for 3.
Wickets were also taken by Raife JT, Oscar, Ethan, and Arlo, and Vinehall were all out for 32.

A superb start to the season with a 116-run victory. Well played, everyone—a real team effort. Let’s keep the momentum going next week. Keep training hard and enjoying your cricket, U11As! PMJ

U11B vs Vinehall School

The U11B team kicked off their cricket season with a confident win against Vinehall in a softball match, played away on a picturesque, bowl-shaped pitch.
Batting first, the boys made the most of Vinehall’s medium-paced bowling. There were excellent displays of batting and aggressive running between the wickets. Louis Ross cleared the boundary for a six, Hugo showed great composure and accurate shot selection, and Raife W hit a couple of well-timed fours.

Though the match was one-sided in our favour, it was a valuable learning experience. We identified areas for improvement, especially in reducing extras from no-balls and wides. The team is already looking ahead to their next challenge against Hazelwood with clear goals and growing confidence.

U10A vs Claremont School

Who needs The Hundred when you can watch the entertaining U10A team!
Facing a side that included several Year 6 pupils, we were put in to bat. The early loss of Orlando brought Arthur to the crease, who shared a 49-run partnership with Will, who was unlucky to play on. Albert then joined Arthur and together they added another 40 runs. Arthur and Albert scored 24 and 22 respectively, pushing us to a respectable 131 for 6 from our 20 overs.

Claremont got off to a flyer, with one opener retiring on a quickfire 30. Holmewood showed great resilience, steadily taking wickets to bring the game thrillingly close. Claremont won with just one wicket remaining.

Edgar, in his first A team match, took a wicket, while Orlando, Albert, George, and Zachary (with 2 wickets) all contributed. A very encouraging performance for their first-ever hardball game!

U10B vs Claremont School

The U10B team began their season with a comfortable 28-run victory over a spirited Claremont side.
Some excellent bowling restricted them to 54 runs from 8 overs. Monty and Fraser were especially economical, conceding just 1 run between them across two overs.

We scored 82 runs in reply. The best batting pair, Sebastian and Torres, amassed 34 runs with 7 boundaries.
Well done, boys—a great start to the season!

U10C vs Claremont School

The U10C team delivered a strong all-round performance against a spirited Claremont side.
Batting first, we posted a solid total of 89 runs. The standout batting pairs were Vincent and Tate, and Arthur and Noah, both contributing 30 runs apiece with confident hitting and clever running.

In the field, we showed great discipline, restricting Claremont to 41 runs and taking 5 wickets. Tate and Arthur each took two wickets, helping to seal a convincing victory.

The boys gave everything in the field—a great team effort and a fantastic start to the season!

U9 Sussex vs Bede’s School

Our U9 Sussex team faced a strong and spirited Bede’s side. Holmewood won the toss and chose to field. Bede’s posted 102 runs from 12 overs. Our fielding was sharp and included some excellent catches.

In reply, we scored 64 runs, falling short by 38. Despite the defeat, the team showed great patience and eagerness to score, with proactive running between the wickets keeping pressure on the fielders. Plenty of positives to take forward!

Well done, boys!

U9 Kent vs Vinehall School

A beautiful day for the U9 Kent team to play away at Vinehall.
Ten players represented the school, playing a pairs cricket match.

We batted first and made a convincing total of 79. There’s still much to improve—especially communication when calling—but it was a solid start.

We then bowled in pairs, and it was encouraging to see great focus on bowling straight and energetic fielding.
We won by 41 runs—an excellent start to the season!

Well played, boys!
