Boys’ Sport

1st Team vs Cumnor House Sussex

The 1st Team won a close game away at Cumnor House 1-2, thanks to goals from Tom and Freddie. After going behind 1-0, they battled back to 1-1 at half time, before managing to hold off the home side after taking the lead in the second half.

2nd Team vs Cumnor House Sussex

A tough 1-0 loss in a game where we created plenty of chances but couldn’t convert. A strong effort from the team, but more work to be done on finishing in training before we play St Michael’s away next week.

Boys-3rd Team vs Cumnor House Sussex

The 3rd Team lost a tough game away at Cumnor, 7-2. They battled hard in the first half, keeping the game tight and going in just a goal down at half time. Some incredible goalkeeping from Grayson kept them in the game, but in the second half the home side took their chances and Holmewood were unable to find the back of the goal, missing a number of chances to keep it close and eventually the margin grew. Although the final score flattered the home side a little, the boys battled hard and played some excellent hockey, but struggled to convert the many chances they created.

4th Team vs Cumnor House Sussex

The Fourth team travelled to Cumnor House and played through unpredictable weather—sunshine one moment, hail the next! They dominated possession, creating multiple scoring chances with a high press that disrupted Cumnor’s restarts and led to dangerous counterattacks. Odi was instrumental in breaking up play and launching fresh attacks.

An early goal came after a rare mistake from their keeper, but he recovered to make several crucial saves, including stopping penalty shuffles. In the final moments, Cumnor managed their only shot on target, which was initially saved by William, but they capitalised on the rebound to equalise. A strong performance that deserved more than a draw—well played, boys!

U11A vs Skippers Hill Manor Preparatory School

Our U11A team faced a strong Skippers Hill team, who we are very familiar with losing 3-2 to them earlier on in the season. A strong performance from all showcased our great hockey ability with positive passing, patient play and fantastic finishing. We end the game 2-1 winners. It was a great game of hockey to watch and coach, and I am very pleased with how the boys have progressed throughout the season. I am looking forward to seeing a continuance of strong performances at next weeks tournament. Some very impressive hockey on Wednesday, well played boys!

U11B vs Cumnor House Sussex

In the under 11 B match, in chilly conditions, Holmewood won 2-1, but it really could have gone either way, with great chances at either end. A superb first goal by Raife was cancelled out by a goal from Cumnor House in the second half but Holmewood House scored a fortuitous goal with three minutes to go to win 2-1. It was a super afternoon of hockey, against our friends from Cumnor House, where teams were evenly matched to make a fine spectacle. Well played boys and a well-deserved match tea followed and a chance to warm up. PM-J

U10A Ardingly Hockey Tournament

The U10 boys travelled to Ardingly on Monday, 10th March, to compete in a highly competitive hockey tournament. They played some fantastic hockey throughout the day, excelling particularly in their dynamic movement off the ball to create 2v1 opportunities. Their strong performances saw them top the group, securing a hard-fought victory over St Christopher’s (1-0) and overcoming Cumnor in a tense penalty shuffle decider.

In the semi-final against Brambletye, the boys controlled the game well but struggled to find the net, leading to another shuffle shoot-out. In a dramatic sudden-death finish, every player had to step up and take a shot. Henry was outstanding in goal, making an incredible 7 saves out of 10, while Monty calmly slotted home the winning goal to seal a 4-3 victory.

The final saw us take on a strong Ardingly side, who had won all their previous matches 3-0. It was an intense end-to-end battle, with both teams creating chances and narrowly missing shuffles. Despite a valiant effort, Ardingly capitalized on a rebound to edge the contest and claim the title.

It was a fantastic experience for the boys, who showed resilience, skill, and teamwork throughout. They should be incredibly proud of their efforts, coming away with well-deserved silverware after a brilliant tournament.

U10 A hockey vs Cumnor House Sussex

The Under 10 A hockey team entertained Cumnor House on Wednesday afternoon which saw hail, sleet, icy blasts and occasional sunshine. But the quality of the hockey certainly warmed the hearts! Thank you, parents for your great support on such a bitterly cold afternoon. Holmewood House started well, after a most unfortunate injury in the first 30 seconds to the most influential Cumnor player! I did not know that until after the game – promise! Great link up play between George, Will, Louis, Albert and Monty led to a great goal scored by Alex. He added a second a bit later in the half, but it really was end to end and Henry definitely saved the team on numerous occasions with some fine saves. It is great to see him following in the family tradition with older sister and Old Holmewoodian and former goalkeeper herself, Eloise cheering on from the crowd. Welcome back Eloise – it was great to see you. Orlando and Arthur also contributed in a fine team effort and a great 2-0 victory, in a very evenly contested match. PM-J

U10B vs Cumnor House Sussex

A tough match against a strong Cumnor House Colts team. The boys worked hard and kept their heads up but struggled to find their rhythm as a team. Plenty to learn and build on for the next game against St Michael’s next week!

U11C, U10C & U10D vs Cumnor House and Skippers Hill

The U11C, U10C, and U10D teams combined together to make four colts hockey teams. They put their indoor skills to the test in an exciting tournament against Cumnor House and Skippers Hill. Using the walls to their advantage, they attacked well and navigated out of pressure with confidence. A fantastic display of fast-paced hockey, with plenty of success and enjoyment all around!
