Boys’ Sport 29.11.24

Seniors and Colts

Due to heavy overnight rain, matches across the region were cancelled, affecting our plans for nine rugby teams across four age groups. Fortunately, our facilities include a large astro pitch, which allowed us to organise team-based training sessions instead. These sessions were comprehensive, enhancing fitness, fundamental skills, team tactics, and both offensive and defensive organisation, culminating in multiple touch rugby matches. While we were disappointed to miss out on games against teams like Somerhill and St Michael’s, all pupils were able to engage in a highly beneficial training session that incorporated plenty of competitive match play.

U9A-C Rugby Team v St Michael’s Kent

The Under 9 boys competed in two contact and one non-contact match against St Michael’s, Kent. The A team faced a formidable opponent with immense physical strength and sharp strategy, while the B team engaged in a closely fought match, ultimately facing defeat. The C team, however, secured a decisive victory. All teams gained valuable insights into game strategy and teamwork, demonstrating considerable potential. Each group showed resilience and progress, and we look forward to seeing how they apply these lessons in next week’s match against Somerhill. Good luck, boys! Keep striving for excellence on the field.

U8A-D Rugby Team v St Michael’s Kent

The U8s travelled to St Michael’s, fielding four teams on their astro pitch. Despite the chilly conditions, our pupils were eager and came out strong. Each team demonstrated dominance, effectively pressuring the attackers, and forcing mistakes from our opponents helping us to win back the ball. Offensively, our players showcased athleticism, regularly creating space by running forwards and hard at defenders to break their defensive lines. Players were trying to pass to supporting runners or teammates positioned with depth, which helped us find the space and keep possession of the ball.

The A, B (who also played against Radnor House), and C teams won all their matches, while the D team drew, with several tries narrowly defended on the line. This was a commendable performance from a team still acclimating to rugby, showing great promise, and looking forward to another challenging match against Somerhill next week.
